The Tourist

I just got back from seeing the Johnny Depp/Angelina Jolie movie the Tourist and I liked it in spite of tepid reviews. It's the perfect date movie as the guys can drool over Angelina Jolie who is utmost ravishing throughout with her large exotic eyes made up exquisitely to enhance their natural beauty and her famous pursed lips and sultry voice and girls can drool over handsome, boyish, cool in the face of danger, Johnny Depp.

The story concerns Angelina Jolie as an Interpol agent in the financial crimes division who's lover, Alexander Pierce is a fugitive thief wanted in 14 countries and has stolen 2 billion dollars from a British gangster who surrounds himself with Russians and owns and operates all the brothels and casinos in Italy. Naturally the Agency wants Pierce because he owes millions in back taxes and wants the money returned and the gangster wants his money back. The gangster is ruthless and has killed every man his wife was involved with. It all has a familiar James Bond type theme to it throughout with great and humorous boat chases through Venice's canals. The gangster reminded me of the heavy set actor Gert Frobe from Goldfinger and in fact, Timothy Dalton, who has played James Bond in the past, has a small role as the chief Inspector from Scotland Yard.

Angelina gets a note from her lover, Pierce, delivered outside a French cafe instructing her to find someone of similiar height and build and make them think it's him..This is where Johnny Depp comes in and they meet on a train. He is just an innocent tourist in France. What follows is a trail of twists and turns that are fun and suspenseful. I particularly was fascinated by all the electronic tracking equipment the agency uses.

In an article I read, it seems Johnny Depp's real life live in partner and mother of their two kids was so jealous of her Johnny appearing opposite Angelina that she was on the set daily to make sure things didn't get too hot and heavy and who could blame her. The studio kept the two of them hundreds of miles apart. In fact Johnny had to fly in an hour and a half each day during filming.

The ending has the kind of twist I like and I was taken by surprise though my wife suspected it. If you feel like a good movie with great eye candy for both sexes, check out The Tourist. Click on the link below for the trailer and you'll see what I mean
